“He spoke to them again and said, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I send you.” John 20:21
“The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is on me, because the LORD has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners, to proclaim the year of the LORD’s favor and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all who mourn, and provide for those who grieve in Zion–to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair. They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the LORD for the display of his splendor.” Isaiah 61:1-4
Mission represents “otherness” – God’s invitation to every Christ-follower to participate in his redemptive work in all aspects of life. The church is a sent agency. It is foundational, according to Jesus, that His body be about the Father’s work of seeking and saving the lost (John 15:16). Being sent is not the privilege of a few or the gifted, but the God ordained responsibility of every believer (Acts 1:8). Every believer is a missionary in whatever context God has placed them, with whatever gifts He has given them. It is each one’s mission to be His witness and disciple-maker wherever we live and move and have our being.
